  • Lea Nakonechny is a Canadian filmmaker known for her work with the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). Her work often explores diverse themes and narratives, reflecting her interest in storytelling and film as a medium for social commentary and artistic expression.

  • Since joining the BFI as a curator in 2005, Simon has worked to bring the riches of the BFI National Archive to a wider audience, across BFI digital platforms, on special events, cinema seasons and broadcast partnerships. As Producer he now manages the BFI’s slate of creative archive collaborations, developing projects with the independent production sector, filmmakers and commissioners.

  • INA is a great company that has given me the opportunity to work in different sectors, including Imagina, a festival on computer graphics that took place in Monte-Carlo. I've now been working for nearly 20 years as Head of development & international sales (TV and radio clips & programmes) in the INA's distribution department. It's an exciting sector that's changing rapidly, so I'm able to take on daily challenges surrounded by a close-knit team.

  • Barbara Rodriguez has worked in sales distribution for more than two decades. Since 2011, she is a sales executive at Sonuma, the worldwide distributor of the audio-visual archive footage from Belgium's French-speaking public broadcaster RTBF. Sonuma also represents collections from local television stations, independent producers and various archives. She handles footage licensing for use in documentaries, news broadcast, tv programs, museum exhibition, corporate content and DVD releases.

TALES FROM THE VAULTS: Re-Imagining Your Immaculate Collection

Shout! Studios Brian Ward moderates a panel dealing with the current reality of film and video degragation, and what positive opportunities there are for libraries to not only save this content, but monetize from it.  We'll hear from reps from Retro Video, Duplitech, Prasad Corporation and Reflex Technologies about these different solutions.

  • As the Senior Director at Shout! Factory, Brian Ward has spent 20 years building and maintaining relationships with licensors and vendors, leading teams responsible for film and television masters restoration, and creating original content and value-added material. Brian also oversaw the creation of UHDs, Blu-rays, and DVDs. Brian's work experience also includes producing and co-hosting popular podcast "The Arkham Sessions," which analyzes the psychology of BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES. Brian has also worked as a director, editor, and showrunner for various projects, such as directing a piece for Nightowl Studios and editing a video for BALDUR'S GATE 3.

  • Reed Bovee started his professional career in 1985 as a documentary filmmaker in Alaska. In 2012, after developing and patenting a new method for digitizing fragile motion picture films, he founded Reflex Technologies which addresses the critical need for digitally preserving motion picture films that are shrunken, brittle, warped, or classified as extinct.

  • Steve Johnson is Chief Operating Officer of Duplitech, where he directs all aspects of business and technical operations. A lifelong entrepreneur, Steve started his first video production company at the age of 15 and later joined Duplitech as partner and COO in 2010. In his current role, he has developed custom digitization and remastering workflows for a variety of clients and content categories, from feature films to shorts and episodics.

  • Ian Marshall is a seasoned entrepreneur and co-owner of Retro Video, a leading firm specializing in video clip licensing for retro and archival content. With a deep-seated passion for vintage media and an extensive background in the video licensing industry, Ian plays a pivotal role in overseeing the acquisition and licensing of rare video clips. Before co-founding Retro Video , Ian accumulated over a decade of experience in media rights management and digital content distribution. His career began in media production and swiftly evolved into a focus on licensing and archival footage.

  • Paige Sherman is Director, Video Programming at Shout! Studios overseeing programming strategy and operations for our 10 FAST channels—four branded channels (Shout! Factory TV, TokuSHOUTsu, Scream Factory TV, and Shout! Cult) and six show-specific channels (Mystery Science Theater 3000, Johnny Carson TV, The Carol Burnett Show, ALF, Farscape, and Trailer Park Boys). Paige joined Shout! Factory as a fresh graduate of Quinnipiac University a year after Shout’s first two FAST channels, Shout! Factory TV and MST3K, launched, and played a key role in the rollout of Shout! Factory TV and MST3K on the Amagi platform in 2018. Paige was also the mastermind and conductor of several innovative programming stunts such as Piranhathon and Chopping Mall Black Friday.

  • Mark Smirnoff is President for Prasad – North America, responsible for sales and operations. Prasad is one of the largest Film post-production houses globally, and after a stable growth year (2020-21), despite bearing the brunt of the pandemic, it is now set for growth. The company will consolidate its position as a preferred partner for several of its loyal customers in the US market. Mark brings decades of experience to Prasad and has a proven record of taking customer-centric technology service companies to the next level, serving in executive positions for companies such as Modern Video film, Deluxe Entertainment Services and Technicolor. Hecomes with vast experience in various businesses, including Film, Television, Streaming services, Digital Media, VFX, AR, and VR.

CASE STUDY: News Coverage of JFK Assassination

Award-winning archive producer Rich Remsberg (Bobby Kennedy for President") moderates a unique case study on the compelling third-party content from the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the subsequent dramatic days that followed -- from the First Couple's landing at Love Field, to the assassination itself, to the live local news coverage of the Dallas Police's hunt for the assassin and subsequent arrest and shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald, to the final heart-breaking image of JFK Jr. as he salutes the casket that carried the beloved president to his final resting place. Tom Jennings, who produced Nat Geo's The Lost Tapes: The Assassination offers his perspective on the compelling content.  Special guests from the Sixth Floor Museum will be showing some restored content from the historic four days, courtesy of Scene Savers.

  • Rich Remsberg is a two-time Emmy Award-winning archival producer with more than twenty years’ experience on documentary films and series. Working with directors Lawrence Kasdan, Ben Stiller, Penny Lane, Amir Bar-Lev, Marshall Curry, and Eugene Jarecki, Remsberg specializes in creating fresh storylines and finding rare and unseen footage to support them. His credits for HBO, Netflix, Disney+, NatGeo, History, and PBS include Light & Magic, Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street, Bobby Kennedy for President, Happy Valley, and the Academy Award-nominated A Night at the Garden.

  • A part of the Museum’s staff since 1996, Megan Bryant has served as Director of Collections at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza since 2008. In this role she oversees collections stewardship, preservation, interpretation and access—including managing all uses of the Museum’s audiovisual collections and related intellectual property assets. Megan was a contributing author to the publications, Rights and Reproductions: The Handbook for Cultural Institutions and Sustainable Revenue for Museums: A Guide.

  • Paul Calardo has operated as Scene Savers’ Sales Manager since 2016 and has been with The PPS Group (Scene Savers’ parent company) since 2009. Paul is responsible for business development, client communications, and execution of custom workflows for digitization and preservation of film, video, and audio content. Paul has facilitated numerous large scale digitization projects for broadcasters, universities, museums and government agencies.

  • Gieringer is the Head of Special Collections at the University of North Texas Libraries and the Director of the Graduate Academic Certificate in Archival Management in the UNT College of Information. She oversees acquisitions of rare and unique collections and spearheads major archival initiatives including management of the WBAP/KXAS Television News Film Collection.

  • Tom Jennings is a Peabody and Emmy award-winning documentary filmmaker and journalist. He has written, produced and directed more than 500 hours of programming on topics including politics, religion, history, crime, sports, mystery and travel. Tom and his company received The Peabody Award for their Smithsonian Channel film detailing the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. The Emmy, which 1895 Films has received many nominations, was awarded to Tom and his company for their National Geographic film about the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster. Tom also produced the highly successful profile of Princess Diana, called Diana: In Her Own Words, which became a worldwide phenomenon. Tom started his career as a print journalist, writing for publications including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and Associated Press. In 1994, he was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in journalism for investigative reporting.

ONE-ON-ONE: with Former Jukin Media Founder Jon Skogmo

Archive Producer Steve Kozak interviews Skogmo, whose much-lauded role as a disruptor of the viral video business has made him one of the top executives in the industry, where he created a management system of representing this unique and compelling user-generated content. He'll discuss the origins of his entrepreneurial spirit that led to him founding Jukin Media -- which opened up new avenues of monetization through its branded TV and online series Fail Army -- and how that eventually led to its recent sale to Trusted Brands Media. Skogmo will also discuss his new venture, a travel-media site targeted toward younger users, LOST iN.  Skogmo, along with Kozak, are the original founders of AMCUP, which launched its annual conference, FootageFest, in 2018.

  • Steve Kozak is one of the top clip producers in the industry, having spent the last 20 years alone in late night television (“Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”). Previously, he was a producer for “Whose Line is it Anyway” for several seasons, after spending seven years as a News Editor and Assignment Editor at Paramount’s “Real TV” and ”Hard Copy”, respectfully. He has also worked behind the scenes at such shows as “You Gotta See This”, and helped produce the archive-packed “Donny and Marie Live” stage show that started in Las Vegas and went throughout the U.S.

  • Jonathan Skogmo is Founder and CEO of LOST iN, a media company focused on inspiring the next generation of travel enthusiasts. A Los Angeles based entrepreneur, investor, and advisor, Skogmo is the former Founder and CEO of Jukin Media, a global digital media company that was acquired by Trusted Media Brands in 2021. Skogmo has been named to The Hollywood Reporter’s Next-Gen 35 Under 35 list, and the Multichannel News 40 Under 40 list, among other industry accolades. Skogmo has produced more than two hundred hours of broadcast, cable, and streaming TV programming for networks such as FOX, MTV Networks, Discovery, TruTV, Facebook, Verizon, and others.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE CONTENT: Viral Videos

Veteran Clip Show Producer Teddy Cannon (Ridiculousness) moderates a panel of viral video agents, including Newsflare, LPE360, Jukin Media, Caters, and AFV.  Showrunner Eddie Rohwedder offers some historical perspective on the beginnings of viral videos, and how they existed before the internet was created.  Cannon leads a discussion on how brokers work, and the advantages and disadvantages of having a viral video agency represent your content.  These agencies will show off a few of their favorite clips, and show the process of how to license this wild content into your projects.

Before joining Newsflare, Erika honed her skills in various roles across the media industry, including stints as a reporter and producer for prominent news outlets.

  • After a decade in the film industry, Andrew Dignan has been working in the user generated space since 2013, licensing tens of thousands of viral videos to television shows, feature films, commercial campaigns and digital publishers. Primarily serving as the VP of Entertainment Licensing at Trusted Media Brands (formerly Jukin Media) until 2022, Andrew has since worked for such user generated entertainment companies as Newsflare and Caters Media Group before arriving at V10 Entertainment in early 2024.

  • James Hart began his career as a researcher and producer, working on reality tv, game shows, clip shows and documentaries. Since founding LPE360 he’s delivered rights cleared footage to countless programs and become an established supplier of user generated content. In addition to spearheading new distribution opportunities James is now offering representation for archival libraries and programs.

  • With a career spanning over 15 years in the media and communications industry, Lianne has developed a reputation for her strategic acumen and her ability to navigate the ever-evolving media landscape. Before joining Caters Media Group, Lianne held key positions at leading media agencies and corporate communications firms, where she honed her skills in media planning, digital strategy, and content development.

  • Kevin leads the licensing efforts at Jukin across Entertainment, Digital and Editorial. Before that Kevin founded an e-signature software company that enables businesses to put quick agreements in place with everyday people, and has held senior licensing roles at Getty Images and EMI Music Publishing (now Sony ATV).

  • Eddie Rohwedder is a distinguished executive producer and showrunner renowned for his story-centric approach to creating engaging television. His contributions to the reality TV industry include The Ultimate Fighter, Ghost Hunters, and Fast N' Loud, all of which showcase his knack for extracting captivating narratives from real-world situations. He also ran shows like Tyson Vs. Jaws, Garage Rehab, Destroyed in Seconds, and Dirty Jobs.

  • Elizabeth Bowley is a Business Development Manager at the British Pathé film archive. Originally from Dorset in the UK, Elizabeth studied 20th-century history at University and went on to complete her master’s degree in creative writing. She has worked at British Pathé for six years, beginning in a research role and then moving into the licensing side of the business. She now handles licensing to the Americas where she enjoys helping productions across the pond include a slice of history in their projects.

  • Nick Spark is the co-founder and curator of Periscope Film, a leading historic film archive based in Los Angeles and vice president of the non-profit Humanus Documentary Film Foundation. Nick has a masters degree in film production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He is also an Emmy award winning documentary filmmaker whose projects have appeared on PBS, History Channel and National Geographic. He has also spent time in front of the camera and the microphone, appearing on PBS' "NOVA" and "History Detectives", the "Decoder Ring" podcast and National Public Radio's "All Things Considered".

Joe Jennings, who not only skydives in your favorite film, TV and commercials, he also shoots them, and represents most of that spectacular content.

After over a decade working in the archival world, Meghan went from specializing in Archival Production and rights and clearance supervision, to effectively mastering research and acquisition, fair use, budget tracking, vendor contracts and more. She founded Archival Ninjas in 2020 where her now-full team has produced award winning projects like Super League: The War for Football, Goliath and most recently In the Arena: Serena Williams (airing now on ESPN and Hulu).

  • Ben Godwin is the Vice President of Licensing at Catapult Sports, a global sports data and content management company with offices in Boston, London, and Melbourne. Ben has over 20 years of experience in sports media, including time spent with teams, broadcasters, and now, an agency. Considered one of the leading resources for collegiate intellectual property clearances, Ben and his wife, Libby, reside in Orlando with their four children.

  • Joe Jennings is aerial stunt coordinator and free fall cinematographer. As a competition camera flyer, Joe trained with the world’s greatest skysurfers and won two world championship titles and first place at the ESPN Extreme Games. These victories helped to launch his career as a skydiving cinematographer for Hollywood movies, TV shows, and commercials and his work can be seen in movies like Charlie’s Angels, Air Force One, San Andreas, and Point Break to name a few, and also in dozens of television shows and commercials for some of the largest companies worldwide, earning him numerous awards including two Sport Emmys for his helmet mounted camerawork.

  • Robert Lois is a Director at IMG with over 20 years’ experience at the company. Robert’s main responsibility is to oversee IMG’s footage licensing in North and South America, which has allowed him the opportunity to work with various worldwide sports organizations, brands and production companies. Born in Brooklyn and now residing in New Jersey, Robert is married with one daughter. Also, an avid sports fan, he loyally follows his favorite NY teams, the Knicks, Yankees and Jets.

  • Jackson is one of the leading executives at SpringHill Company, Lebron James' prolific production company. He works on creating partnerships at Uninterrupted, one of SpringHill's most popular series. New-Smith started his sports production role on the actual baseball field as a clubhouse attendant for the San Francisco Giants.

Los Angeles News Executive Producer Charles Stewart moderates a panel on acquiring and licensing local news featuring content from both news affiliates, as well as top stringers from Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.  Joe Marrone offers previews from the massive Tegna library (formerly Gannett).  Marika Gerrard will share with us her adventures from the Los Angeles skies capturing such iconic moments as OJ Simpson leading police on a slow-speed chase, as well as the infamous Reginald Denny beating during the 1992 L.A. riots.  Oliya Scootercaster will take us through her exploits as a Ukranian war journalist, as well as her time spent as a newly-inducted New York-based stringer. Legendary Chicago stringer David Lasker returns again to dig into his amazing HD library of captured content.

  • Marika co created Los Angeles News Service in 1978 to cover breaking news in Los Angeles. From their beginnings as overnight stringers using a camera financed by a short lived stint as bounty hunters, to the first live police pursuits from their helicopter in 1991, their award winning footage includes iconic footage like The OJ pursuit and the beating of Reginald Denny during the LA riots and Madonna’s wedding to Sean Penn in Malibu. The footage she shot between 1980 and 2005 has been archived and digitized as the Los Angeles News Service Archive.

  • Gieringer is the Head of Special Collections at the University of North Texas Libraries and the Director of the Graduate Academic Certificate in Archival Management in the UNT College of Information. She oversees acquisitions of rare and unique collections and spearheads major archival initiatives including management of the WBAP/KXAS Television News Film Collection.

  • David's journalism career started as teenager when a picture he shot of a cycling accident was published. During college, David became a stringer for the TV stations in the Chicago market. He soon started a video news service, with eight video journalists covering breaking news. David worked behind the camera for 13 years, then transitioned to starting a permanent archive of broadcast newscasts in 2005. He acquired several archival collections over the years - more than 40,000 tapes, 400,000 DVDs and100 petabytes of recorded content. The archive now spans from 1983 to the present.

  • Joe Marrone has spent over 25 years in footage licensing, beginning at Getty Images and then on to Framepool and Nimia - now known as Kurator. A life-long New Yorker, Joe graduated from NYU Film and has a passion for film preservation and historical footage. Licensing local news has become his specialty. Kurator exclusively represents the TEGNA collection of news footage from over 50 local stations in the US.

  • Video journalist, reporter and producer based in New York City, Oliya produced stories, latest surrounded by Pandemic, deaths, uprising, migration crisis, armed militias, George Floyd and Capitol riots. In February 2022, Oliya (originally from Kyiv) traveled back to Ukraine, where she stayed for two months to document the war, before and through the invasion. Oliya started her career in journalism at a young age of 14. After studying Film Production and Psychology at Oxford Brookes University, she worked as a photographer and a DJ, a career that took her to LA and around the world. Now living in NYC she started FNTV, a small business newswire service, to gather a team of professionals with the same goal.

  • As an EMMY® award winning Executive Producer/Producer, Charles Stewart has created, developed, executed and supervised everything from live and taped TV news programs to documentaries, clip, reality, talk, digital and entertainment shows. Charles has served as an Executive Producer at KCBS/KCAL and NBC Los Angeles. In other roles, he has also worked on national shows such as; JFK: Inside the Evidence, World's Most Amazing Videos, Ripley's Believe it or Not!, Hot Ticket, the launch of the National Geographic channel, Booking Producer for Health Uncensored! with Dr. Drew, and more.

  • Barry Dagestino has been a leader in the content and clearance world for almost 30 years. For 6 years he headed the Clip Licensing Department at MGM Studios. Since MGM, he has transitioned into the Clearance side of the business for many documentaries, television programs, award shows, concerts, and major tourist attractions. Currently, Barry is part of the Global Rights team at A&E Television Networks, and also co-founded AMCUP, which begat FootageFest.

  • Jonathan Segal is an attorney with a passion for digital and traditional media, who has worked on award-winning productions in film, television, and the interactive space.   • Barry Dagestino has been a leader in the content and clearance world for almost 30 years. For 6 years he headed the Clip Licensing Department at MGM Studios. Since MGM, he has transitioned into the Clearance side of the business for many documentaries, television programs, award shows, concerts, and major tourist attractions. Currently, Barry is part of the Global Rights team at A&E Television Networks, and also co-founded AMCUP, which begat FootageFest.

  • Stephanie Jenkins has over a decade of experience seeing documentary films from development to delivery. She has worked with Ken Burns and Florentine Films since 2010, on multiple projects including their eight-hour series Muhammad Ali (2021), The Central Park Five (2012) , Jackie Robinson (2015), and East Lake Meadows: A Public Housing Story (2020). In addition to her work with Florentine Films, she has contributed research to non-fiction media such as This American Life, Radiolab, The New York Times Op-Docs vertical, Spike Lee’s Forty Acres and a Mule Productions. In 2023, she co-founded the Archival Producers Alliance and is working with that group on putting guidelines in place around the use of generative AI materials in non-fiction films.

He has written, produced and directed more than 500 hours of programming on topics including politics, religion, history, crime, sports, mystery and travel. Tom and his company received The Peabody Award for their Smithsonian Channel film detailing the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. The Emmy, which 1895 Films has received many nominations, was awarded to Tom and his company for their National Geographic film about the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster. Tom also produced the highly successful profile of Princess Diana, called Diana: In Her Own Words, which became a worldwide phenomenon. Tom started his career as a print journalist, writing for publications including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and Associated Press. In 1994, he was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in journalism for investigative reporting.
